Who are we?
Over the Shoulder Tutor is part of the tutoring, e-Learning and e-Assessment services offered by Internet Learning Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
The two person team behind InternetLearningSolutions is Gerrie Schoeman, who lives in Gauteng, South Africa, and Stefan van der Vyver, who lives in London, UK.
Gerrie and Stefan are passionate about education. They have worked with, and experienced, all the various forms of learning technology over the last 30 years.
This tutor, based on the latest Artificial Intelligence technology, is a new way to offer high quality tutoring to learners of all grades in all languages.
We started with Maths
For the past 30 years, both Gerrie and Stefan have used technology and online learning to help students increase their scores and performance in Mathematics.
Gerrie has been known as the “MathMechanic” by thousands of students, helping them understand and pass Maths in school.
Focused on education
Over The Shoulder Tutor is aimed at South African Primary and Secondary education. Our fine-tuning of the AI tutoring is strongly guided by curriculum and geographical guidelines, and ethical and practiced tutoring principles.
Backed by humans
Where the AI fails or struggles, Gerrie and Stefan are available to help.
Artificial Intelligence is only three years old, and sometimes it can do with a little bit of help – so call on a real human tutor if needed!
Students do the work
Our guidance and training to the AI tutor forces the learner to do the steps themselves, while focusing on asking questions to the tutor (like a real in-person tutoring session). This means that the AI tutor does not just “give the answer” but provides proper guidance for learning and mastering.
